Storage Hacks for Small Kitchens

A lot of one-bedroom apartments come with tiny kitchens that don’t offer near enough storage space. You might be overwhelmed by the thought of having to fit all of your dishes, utensils, and cookware into just a few cupboards. And, that’s not to mention the space you’ll need for the food itself. Fortunately, there are a few hacks you can use to make the most of the limited storage space in a small kitchen:

  • Take advantage of available wall space. Hang pots, pans, and utensils on hooks or on a pegboard to free up space in your cabinets. You can also store knives on a magnetic wall-mounted rack instead of in a knife block.
  • Organize wax paper, aluminum foil, and more. Many people end up tossing their plastic wrap, sandwich baggies, and similar items into the cabinet below the sink, where they form an unorganized mess. Attach a lightweight magazine holder to the inside of your cabinet door using removable adhesive strips, and you’ll be able to store everything within easy reach.
  • Invest in a rolling kitchen cart. When you’re not using it, you can keep it in your dining room or another room in your apartment, where it’ll provide extra storage space. And, when you need extra counterspace for prepping food, you can roll it back into your kitchen.
  • Get spices out of your cupboards. By applying magnets to the back of spice racks, or onto the lids of spice jars themselves, you can store them on the side of your refrigerator, where they’ll be within arm’s reach whenever you need them.

Before making any modifications to your apartment, be sure to check with the landlord to see if it’s alright — some leases prohibit tenants from using nails, screws, etc.
